| U definatly have to change the beach music theme, it is not the best choice, im preety sure players would rip the hair out of there heads hearing that song looping, really bad choice please change it |

i might be helping you with sound design in about two or three weeks but my life is quite spontaneous so i can't promise anything for now. the game needs serious support right now, and i think i can provide you with original or at least bits of audio that is royalty free. no rips, no edits from the copyrighted games but i am talking about original sfx.
we can start with menu sounds, simple click sounds, then skill sounds and then lastly background themes.
i heard some midis in this thread but as you know they rely on midi banks on the actual computer to work, they cary note and some other parameters (velocity, swing...etc.) but they are not actually sound files. nearly every pc with windows has the default midi bank but to make it sound right in every platform i suggest an open format. .ogg files are small and open source so a good choice for sfx. i don't know if the game engine can play them but to save space they are one of the best. also rendering mono files will even decrease the filesize.
i am caring about the file sizes because if full sfx is implemented, it can add to the total download size. and this game tries to maintain its "no download required" state. |

this is what i have come up with so far:

it contains some sfx for menu items (stats,tabs..etc) and a demo song which could be used for the town. all files are in .ogg format so you need proper encoders, those who installed a codec pack could play them in their media players.
all done in linux multimedia studio and audacity running on windows xp machine combined with FL studio. i used FL just for the song because Linux multimedia studio had troubles with its sampler, i am planning to use open source or at least free software as much as i can. |

I can't believe I didn't respond to this yet.
@Tahir, it would be awesome if you could donate some sfx & music to the project! I know about the midi sound stuff but unfortunately I am only positive that the game engine can play .wav and .midi sound files. I agree that .ogg would be a better format for the sfx but Pres will need to see if the engine is capable of even playing them correctly.
Anyway, I listened to your stuff and so far the sound effects are pretty good!(even though they are just little beeps, we could still use sfx for the menu and misc) As for the song, well its not so good the way it is now in my opinion. I know you said its a 'demo' but it could use a lot more work before we should consider using it. First of all there needs to be more instruments (a soft background chorus or something) to give more life to the song, as well as the world. Also, I'm not sure if it's due to the lack of instruments but the flute sounds really loud by itself, it's like piercing my eardrums. Make it sound more soft and vibrant than loud and piercing. I like the lead flute melody you have now but it needs more stuff to back it up. So far it reminds me a lot of "What the Forest Taught Me" from SoM. Do you hear the flute as well as the other instruments in there and how they compliment each other? That's pretty much what I'm trying to say this song needs. Anyway keep it up! ^^
EDIT: Oh by the way people, Rayne and Novrion aren't around much at all anymore so don't expect them to respond to any posts here. |
